What's on in Majorca: 20-26 May
The elections this weekend have had an impact on fairs. At least least three which would normally take place this weekend have been held over. The big survivor is the Binissalem stone fair. Alaro's May fiesta, replete with Cossier folk dancers, also goes ahead. Otherwise, a leading name in contemporary folk music, Emily Barker, is in Palma, and there is a major benefit concert at Palma Auditorium.

Fairs in Alaro, Alcudia (replete with Roman market), Binissalem (music, art and more), Can Picafort (the art fest), Esporles (sweet fair), Llucmajor and Sant Joan (the famed botifarró fest). Manchester's Nev Cottee in Palma, Abba Live and more Oktoberfest and monster trucks.

What's on in Majorca: 26 September-1 October
The fairs now start to come thick and fast. Alcudia's is always extremely popular, with a highlight being the dances and procession of the bigheads S'Estol Rei en Jaume; Llucmajor starts its series of four fairs with the first for Sant Miquel, which features the dances of the cavallet cotoners; Alaro's on Sunday will have the "somera" donkey and its dance. And Esporles has its fair, which is devoted to sweets and pastries. The Capella Mallorquina choir celebrates fifty years with a free concert at Palma Cathedral, and Syrian pianist Aeham Ahmad performs at the Teatre Principal in Palma.

Cossier folk dancers in Alaro and Manacor, a prehistory fair in Arta, ecological fair in Puigpunyent, the orange fair in Soller, the Posidonia Festival in Deya on Saturday, and the Palma book fair in the Passeig Born starts on Friday. Cala d'Or jazz over the weekend.
